The ever-increasing applications of large area electronics in commercial electronic products has drawn significant attention to thin-film transistors (TFT) and related technologies. TFTs on silicon, oxide and organic thin film technologies are becoming increasingly common. Besides applications in flat panel displays and imagers, new application areas are emerging, in which TFTs are used as analog and digital circuit elements for signal processing. This calls for reliable physically based compact models of TFTs for expedient circuit simulation that accurately and reliably predicts system behavior. Concentrated R&D efforts are critical to develop TFT models for these thin-film technologies, and significant R&D efforts along these lines are underway worldwide.

This workshop will provide a forum for discussions and current practices on compact modeling and to promote research on CAD techniques at all levels (TCAD including materials and processing, compact modelling, circuit & system design) for TFT and related device and manufacturing technologies. It is also intended to promote the training of students, young researchers, and engineers and to build international, academic-industry, and cross-level collaborations to evoke new applications of TFT technologies, including flexible electronics. The workshop is technically co-sponsored by the IEEE EDS Compact Modeling Technical Committee and Flexible Electronics and Displays Technical Committee, in joint-collaboration with Shandong University. A partial list of the areas of interest includes:

  • Physics of TFTs and operating principles
  • Compact TFT device models for circuit simulation
  • Model implementation and circuit analysis techniques
  • Model parameter extraction techniques
  • TFT design for displays and emerging applications, including flexible electronics
  • TCAD, including materials and processing
